"Design Research, Beyond Interviews"
What comes to mind when I say Design Research? “5 WHY’s”? Someone very empathetic? A 60 mins user interview? A long survey with lots of questions? Design Research is much more than that. Design Research is the way we get informed and inspired about the challenge we are trying to solve.
In this talk, I will be speaking about methods and approaches that will take us beyond user interviews to get us inspired and unlock our thinking.
As a Design Lead at IDEO, I specialize in leading multi-disciplinary (remote) teams working on organizational change, environmental sustainability and digital ventures.
I am most excited working at the intersection of design research and data science to break-down the traditional “8-10 interviews research approach”. Through working closely with data scientists at IDEO, I became a firm believer that asking questions from data is the way we are going to evolve design research. Techniques such as sentiment analysis on large datasets and modeling to prototype behavior at scale have enabled my teams to deliver viable and desirable solutions to complex human challenges.
Prior to joining IDEO, I co-founded +37, a design studio in New York. I led the studio for 4 years working on projects ranging from designing medical products to reimagining public spaces.
I earned my B.A. in Product Design from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.
I studied Social Anthropology at the Post Baccalaureate Program in Human Sciences at Columbia University.
